2021 — Welcome to the Great Reset

Let the end of 2020 mark a divide in our minds. This is the moment of truth that marks our coming of age, our global awareness, and the beginning of the time after that.

Factory Reset — Pause based on where we are now. How can we get where we are going, from here together?

The COVID-19 pandemic and response has shown us many inequities domestically and around the world. But then again, we knew this was coming. We have been grappling with a reality that is mostly invisible. The ability for technology, more specifically our human ability to create tools, to shape our world has surely passed a key point. We’ve noticed the growing influence of our thriving population on the planet and the resources we consume to thrive. We’re aware that this way of living is not sustainable for all human life. But the real story is the source of this awareness.

Enter the Internet

We collectively, across different economic systems and governments, have created an meta awareness layer that is accessed asynchronously, based upon curiosity. It is as expansive as the published human mind. It is reasonably accessible and thus has the structural capacity to bind all humans together as one. We usually call it the Internet.

The Internet brings us closer to one another, it takes the wrinkles out of logistics, and we don’t want to go back. Of course the Internet also comes a slew of troubling realities, not least of which is a growing consensus realization that our ways of describing the economic systems of the world are not adequate for the challenges of tomorrow (BitCoin vs USD, Capitalism vs Socialism). Design beckons us here because emergence has failed to deliver us a workable path as time slips through our fingers. We can’t wait for this to just happen, we need a way to work together more effectively.

The internet provides this path, at least in theory. In order to allow for the nearly 10 billion human beings who will reside on this planet, we must reorganize our human effort to balance access to resources for the benefit of all. We know that…

  • Working together makes humans more effective and life more efficient
  • As more human beings exist on the planet, more resources will be consumed
  • We must protect a share of these resources for future people
  • We must preserve our human ability to communicate globally and transparently

Let 2020 play the visionary role for each of us in co-creating a future with technology and all of its benefits.

Let’s ask the hard questions!

We should take this opportunity to reflect and make opportunities to pivot, to point our compasses towards the things we value most in our lives. We all want much of the same things.

How can we ensure that technology is aligned with what’s best for us?

How might we have a conversation about this?

How might we build a safe technology to help us with this conversation?

How can we ensure proper access to everyone?

How will we ensure this system is transparent and working for the good of all?

What will the feedback mechanisms look like in this future form of U.S.A. made digital government?

How do we get more of those outcomes we seek?

I think we all know deep down, that we all agree “this” (what we have) isn’t working quite right. There is a lot of corruption (think of the money in politicians, lobbyists, political action groups). What would we save in wasted effort if we didn’t have this corruption, steering dollars to less effective outcomes?

Just think about that.

Can we agree this isn’t great? That our individual voices are weakened by this system, if $$$ buys undue influence or worse, it becomes the only way to get things done. This is the kind of corruption that can not be allowed in our system.

Agree? Help us out! Make stamping out government corruption your number one issue.

How can we ensure politicians take action against corruption?
